This piece is funny for a myriad of reasons. First, it doesn't just focus on one thing, it jumps from one humorous aspect to another. Although the focus of the piece is Muslim Extremist Terrorism, it also jokes with Judaism, Catholicism, Washington, Politicians, "bad" words, and sexual humor. This variation helps to keep the audience interested and helps the humor keep running smoothly.
Timing is another main reason this piece is so humorous. The comedian lets the audience applaud and laugh at key times and chooses to pause accordingly after each new joke is made. He moves the doll in time with the jokes and coordinates the eyebrows with how the doll is "feeling" according to the dialogue. He use the natural laughter pattern of the audience to bolster the comedic effects of each joke.
The comedian uses current events to increase the humor and patriotic impact of his routine. He knows that 9/11 was committed by extremist Muslims and every good American is against them, so therefore he used a representation of that hate group because everyone in the audience wants to see that group put down and mocked.
